We Spay and Neuter
All of our rescued animals are spayed or neutered as soon as they are healthy enough to undergo the procedure. Most of our animals are spayed/neutered and fully vaccinated before being placed for adoption. If you adopt a puppy or kitten that is not old enough for the procedure, we will ask you to sign an agreement to have your animal sterilized.
Spay and Neuter is Essential
Every day in Mazatlán we rescue unwanted animals from the ongoing cycle of disease, malnourishment and death. For every animal we rescue, there are many more that we are not able to help. With the overpopulation of unwanted cats and dogs, there is no good reason to allow your pets to reproduce. We encourage all existing pet owners to spay and neuter. We encourage all new pet owners to adopt a rescued animal rather than buy from an animal breeder.
Sterilized animals live healthier and longer lives. Many of the animals that we rescue suffer from sexually transmitted disease. In females, spaying can relieve animals of the burden of multiple births. Neutering of males is the best way to prevent undesirable behaviours such as marking, roaming, humping and aggression.
